GB317 – Sustainability: Seeing the Forest for the Trees – Carbon Benefits of Wood Products
About Course
Wood products are only as sustainable as the forest from which they come, so the Softwood Lumber Board in partnership with AWC, the US Endowment for Forestry and Communities, and the National Alliance of Forest Owners, are working to create several tools to improve transparency and give a complete accounting of the carbon impact of wood products and the potential mitigation of carbon emissions from forests. This program will explain the Fiber Sourcing Transparency tool and the A4 Transportation tool. Additionally, the National Alliance of Forest Owners’ will share its Forest Carbon Data Visualization microsite detailing complex data in an easily understandable way to compare carbon sequestration, storage, and emissions figures.
Learning Objectives:
- Explain the potential carbon benefits of sustainably managed forests
- Express the importance of wood products in the health of working forests
- Describe the forthcoming tool to enhance transparency of forest certification data
- Discuss a future tool that will estimate the A4 impacts of wood products
